CHATTANOOGA, TN (May 17, 2011) – Kimberly A. Lawrence, CPA, tax principal in charge at Joseph Decosimo and Company, PLLC in Chattanooga, has been appointed board chair of Girls Inc. of Chattanooga effective May 1. Girls Inc. of Chattanooga is a nonprofit organization that inspires and equips all girls to be strong, smart and bold℠ on their journey to self-discovery.
“I believe that female leadership is extremely important to our community and have seen first-hand the success that Girls Inc. has had in preparing girls to be leaders,” said Kim Lawrence. “Being an advocate for girls through my involvement with Girls Inc. is one of the ways that I can encourage girls on their path to being healthy, educated and independent.”
Ms. Lawrence, a certified public accountant with more than 23 years experience in public accounting, was the second female to become a principal at Decosimo. Leading the Chattanooga tax department, she is actively involved in the firm’s tax compliance practice, which includes review of partnership, corporate, state, consolidated, and individual tax returns, tax planning and tax consultation. Recently, Ms. Lawrence was appointed chair of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants Women’s Initiative Committee, which is an emerging committee founded to encourage female leadership across Tennessee’s accounting sector.
Besides her involvement with professional associations such as the TSCPA and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant, Ms. Lawrence has also been active in community service, including United Way of Greater Chattanooga, Room in the Inn, Ronald McDonald House and Optimist Club in addition to Girls, Inc. She is also a member of the Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute, the Rotary Club and is a graduate of Leadership Chattanooga. Ms. Lawrence is a graduate of Rhode Island College and has also completed the nationally-recognized Rainmaker Academy Program.
